Discussion:
What's with all of the political garbage in the fandom?

I've only been a furry for a few years, but in that time I've seen the
fandom take a huge nosedive in terms of the quality of people and
conversation within it. I mean, isn't furry supposed to be about
anthropomorphics first and foremost? So frustrating...

Anyone know of some communities that aren't focused entirely around
that stuff?

I don't know where it came from. Everyone's so polarized and intollerant
now. :(

They always were like that. They were just hiding it.
I don't really know about what the hell started this off as some kind of catalyst, but it's getting increasingly frustrating to see polarisation of our fandom occur down to politics when we started off, and are held together, by a love of anthropomorphic creatures. People argue that 'everything has politics in it!' and whereas that's true to a small degree, it really saddens me to see this 'us vs them' mentality that overtly political furries tend to have. Pisses me off, man, it feels like we're losing a lot of soul here...

I remember a few years back I saw a very popular twitter troll suddenly declare that they were a "furry", not out of any affinity for anthropomorphic animals, but as a means to get 'punk cred' on social media. Now furry is another identity to throw in your bio to show how different and cool you are. The people who like to do this also spend a lot of times arguing about politics online.

Should really be possible to argue about politics, but still not hate
everyone who disagrees with you. :/

Know a few furries who decided to stop talking completely and block
contacts over some petty political disagreement. Some people can't
handle it I guess or perhaps they just never learned how to have a
authentic relationship with friends.

Unfortunate. They could be very good friends, but just disagree on politics.
